Overview

The Chopta Tungnath Trek is one of the most popular and spiritually uplifting short treks in Uttarakhand. Set in the magnificent Garhwal Himalayas, Chopta — often called “Mini Switzerland of India” — offers rolling meadows, dense forests of oak and rhododendron, crystal-clear skies, and postcard-perfect views of the mighty Himalayan ranges.

This trek takes you to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, followed by a climb to the summit of Chandrashila, which rewards you with a breathtaking 360° panorama of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and Kedarnath ranges.

Suitable for beginners as well as seasoned trekkers, the route is beautiful throughout the year — lush and vibrant in summer, and magically snow-covered in winter. If you’re looking for a short Himalayan escape filled with spirituality, scenic beauty, and adventure, this is the perfect trek.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1: Haridwar → Chopta (Sari Village) (392 km | 8–9 hours)

Meet our team at Haridwar in the morning and begin the picturesque drive towards Chopta.

En route, stop at Devprayag to witness the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers — the point where the Ganga officially begins.

Arrive in Chopta by late afternoon, check into your stay, freshen up, and enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by forests and mountain views.

Dinner and overnight stay in Chopta.

DAY 2: Trek to Tungnath & Chandrashila (12,000 ft)

Wake up early to a beautiful Himalayan sunrise. After breakfast, start your trek to the sacred Tungnath Temple.

The stone-paved trail winds through meadows and rhododendron forests, offering peaceful vibes and stunning vistas.

From Tungnath, continue onward (weather permitting) to the Chandrashila Peak, the highest point of the trek.

The summit offers unbeatable 360° views of the Himalayas — truly a moment to cherish.

Descend back to Chopta by evening. Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: Trek to Deoria Tal → Return to Haridwar

After breakfast, drive to Sari Village, the starting point of the short trek to Deoria Tal.

Walk through charming village trails to reach the serene lake surrounded by dense pines and enjoy the perfect reflection of Chaukhamba Peak in its still waters.

Return to Sari village by noon and begin your drive back to Haridwar.

Reach Haridwar by around 9 PM — marking the end of your memorable Himalayan getaway.
